You Can Feel It Happening

Getting out of the car takes more effort than it used to. The shopping bags feel heavier. Your knees ache in the morning. You're tired by 3 pm.

Your GP mentions blood sugar, bone density, "staying active." Maybe suggest walking more. Maybe yoga.

and None of that is going to fix what's actually happening.

What's actually happening: Your body loses 3-5% of its muscle mass every decade after 30. After 50, it accelerates. This isn't ageing. It's not training.

Why I Do This

I watched my grandfather lose his independence after a hip operation. Not because of the injury. Because he lost the strength to do basic things.

Making tea. Getting dressed. Pulling out a chair. Getting out of bed without help. His world got smaller every week.

The worst part wasn't the physical stuff. It was watching him apologise for needing help. A proud man reduced to asking permission to use the bathroom.

That's what happens when strength goes. I help people make sure it doesn't.

What's Actually Possible

Sue started training with me at 62. She'd never touched a barbell, after breaking her back several years previously.

A 62-year-old deadlifting 90kg. That's not exceptional genetics. That's what happens when you train properly.

"James has introduced me to why strength training is important for women and how to do it correctly. At each session he listens to my needs and watches my form carefully."

— Sue, 62

"I've overcome long-standing mobility issues. I've built strength I didn't think I was capable of. I feel the strongest, fittest version of myself."

— Lisa, 56

Not Classes. Not Circuits. Actual Coaching.

Most gyms offer two things for over 50s: gentle classes that don't change anything, or young trainers running HIIT circuits with no understanding of joint history or connective tissue.

What I do

Barbell training. Squat, deadlift, press, bench. The movements that build real strength.

Proper progression. We track everything. You get stronger every week because the programme is built to make that happen.

Technical coaching. I teach you how to move properly. Not just what to do, but why.

Your limitations are the starting point. Bad knee? Old shoulder injury? That's information, not a barrier.

This Is For You If

You're over 50 and you can feel yourself getting weaker, stiffer, or less capable than you were a few years ago

You've been told to "stay active" or "take it easy" but nothing's actually improving

You've seen what happens to people who lose their strength and you don't want that to be you

You've tried gyms before and got hurt, got nothing, or got bored

You're willing to commit to a proper programme, not a quick fix

Not for you if

This isn't for you if you've already decided what your body can and can't do. If you want a trainer who'll go easy on you because of your age, or you're looking for gentle movement and a chat, we're not a good fit.
