WHY STRENGTH MATTERS
Strength
noun
noun: strength; plural noun: strengths
-
the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure
Strength is the way all living creatures interact with the physical environment.
By maintaining strength or increasing it we can unlock a world of possibilities, allowing us to live life to the fullest and embrace our golden years with confidence and independence.
Now, let's explore how strength training specifically contributes to this empowered way of living
BENEFITS OF STRENGTH TRAINING
Daily activities like carrying groceries, climbing stairs, and even getting dressed require strength. Strength training increases muscle strength and endurance, making it easier to perform everyday tasks independently, improving overall function, and quality of life, letting you enjoy it fully
As we age, muscle weakness and decreased balance contribute significantly to falls. Strength training improves balance and coordination, making you less likely to fall over
Bone density naturally decreases with age, increasing the risk of osteoporosis. Strength training puts stress on bones, stimulating them to become denser and stronger, reducing the risk of fractures even if we fall.
Research shows resistance training mitigates the neurological and cognitive consequences associated with aging middle and later life by affecting IGF-1, suggesting that physical activity programs should prioritize this type of exercise three days a week.
