The First Chapter

For the first chapter of my life, my reality was defined by gravity. I grew up obese. Every flight of stairs was a reminder of my physical limitations. It was not a cosmetic problem. It wrecked my mental health, drained my confidence, and made existing feel like a burden.

 

I tried the things people try. Diets that lasted weeks. Gym memberships that lasted less. Motivation that arrived on Monday and left by Wednesday. None of it worked because none of it was built on anything real.

 

In my darkest moment, I made a decision. I stopped waiting for motivation and started looking for logic.

What I Tried

Every diet. All the fat loss pills. Multiple gym memberships. Motivation that showed up on Monday and disappeared by Wednesday. None of it stuck because there was no actual plan. Just effort and hope.

 

Eventually I got sick of it and decided to figure out what actually works.

What Actually Worked

I stopped trying to fight my body and started learning how it works. Exercise science. Nutrition. Physiology. Not magazine advice. The actual mechanisms.

 

I lost 60kg over two years. But the weight was the least important part. What mattered was understanding why it worked. Apply the right stimulus, recover, repeat. The body adapts when you give it a reason to.

From Trainee to Trainer

In 2018 the gym where I lost the weight offered me a job. I went from being the person who needed help to the person giving it.

 

That matters because I know what it feels like to walk through the door convinced it's too late. It's not. But it does require a plan.

Lost 60kg gained strength in mind and body.

Hired as a coach.

Launched James Swift Personal Training.
